mac (manager)

Mac has been a regular at The Pines since before he finished school. Mac was among the first ever ACIA-qualified multipitch guides and worked at The Mill climbing gym in its heyday. A qualified geologist, Mac has spent most of his life around rocks in one form or another. His other passions are paddling, bouldering and birdwatching.

Andy comes to The Wilderness Shop with years of ski experience. Skiing, and ski gear, is his real passion and forte. During the winter months, you’ll find him up in the snow weekends - at Hotham, Buller, Stirling... or even on Lake Mountain’s black runs. Before he came to The Wilderness Shop, Andy managed another outdoor retail store and as such, has fantastic product knowledge. He’s a jolly fellow - say hi when you see him in store!

Glenn was part of the New Wave of climbers who, back in the early 80’s, swapped comfortable spring mattresses (or friend’s couches), for a life ‘living in the dirt’ at Arapiles. Dangling from ropes for hours on end, Glenn’s photographs defined the birth of modern climbing in Australia. Apart from his skill behind the camera, and encyclopaedic knowlege of climbing equipment, Glenn is one the the wittiest people you are ever likely to meet.

Bernadette grew up in Gippsland. As a child, Wilsons Prom  was (and still is) a favourite place to visit. Her favourite walk there is along the beaches through beautiful woodlands, ferny gullies and other array of fauna and flora to the lighthouse. However, the mountains usually win over coastal walks. Inspired by Arlene Blum’s first female Annupurna ascent, Bernadette spent 28 days trekking over Throng La pass at 5486m around the Annupurna circuit. Bernadette is also a self-confessed foodie, so, of course, what's on the menu is the most important part of planning a trip.

Jonathan is originally from South Africa, but with a pilot for a father has lived and travelled all over the place. Jonathan’s main passion is whitewater kayaking and he has spent many summers overseas chasing rivers. When he’s not in a kayak, Jonathan can be found mountain biking, climbing, hiking, skiing, alpine touring, etc. His obsession with gear hoarding, we're sure, has gotten him kicked out of home. He’s up for any adventure in the outdoors, for instance, bush-bashing his way into the Little River Gorge (Victoria’s deepest) as a side trip while kayaking the Snowy River. Jonathan has done a Biomed Science degree and has just finished studying Paramedicine, which hopefully will allow him to practice medicine from a helichopter one day!

Sarah was formerly a member of the police force. She’s one tough lady, having climbed mountains and done all sorts of other adventures. Recently she made a trip to Nepal with her sister to walk the Annapurna Circuit. Sarah has a top sense of humour and is a great addition to The Wilderness Shop staff!

For as long as she can remember, Tamika has always had a passion for nature and the outdoors. Having recently completed Year 12, she is excited thinking of the trips she’ll go on in the coming years. Since she was nine years old, Tamika has been involved in Scouting, which allowed her to foster a love for camping and hiking. Her favourite place to explore is Mt Bogong and the surrounding high plains. Since hiking there for the first time when she was 15, the area has been close to her heart, and she enjoys returning there with family and friends.

chelsea (marketing)

Chelsea is predominantly a climber. Her favourite style is long, easy trad, although she does moonlight as a boulderer from time to time. Chelsea has a background in publishing and communications. She worked previously at the much-loved Wild and Rock magazines - Australian owned and produced outdoor magazines that were founded in the late '80s and early '90s. Chelsea is also a paddler and loves an exciting daywalk across Victoria’s windswept coastlines.
