Mac-and-Chelsea

Mac - Manager

Mac has been a regular at ThePines since before he finished school. A qualified geologist, Mac has spent most of his life around rocks in one form or another. His other passion is paddling and his obsession with river height data and rainfall prediction might have something to do with this.

Nick

Nick - Marketing

Nick’s parents helped build a ski lodge at Mt Hotham before he was even born. Suffice to say, the mountains have been a second home to him ever since. During winter, Nick can be found working on the perfect backcountry telemark turns, or disappearing for days at a time on a ski tour somewhere in the highcountry. Never one to get too attached to one place, he has draws full of maps at home and has made it his mission in life to visit all of the out of the way places across Victoria. If you’re ever looking for a place to go bushwalking Nick is likely to talk your ear off with suggestions.

Glenn

Glenn

Glenn was part of the New Wave of climbers who, back in the early 80’s, swapped comfortable spring mattresses (or friend’s couches), for a life ‘living in the dirt’ at Arapiles. Dangling from ropes for hours on end, Glenn’s photographs defined the birth of modern climbing in Australia. Apart from his skill behind the camera, and encyclopaedic knowlege of climbing equipment, Glenn is one the the wittiest people you are ever likely to meet.

Bernadette2

Bernadette

Bernadette grew up in Gippsland.  As a child, Wilson’s Prom  was (and still is) a favourite place to visit. Her favourite walk there is along the beaches through beautiful woodlands, ferny gullies and other array of fauna and flora to the lighthouse. However, the mountains usually win over coastal walks . inspired by Arlene Blum’s first women’s Annupurna ascent , Bernadette spent 28 days trekking over Throng La pass at 5486 m around the Annupurna circuit.  Bernadette is also a self-confessed foodie, so of course, what‘s on the menu is the most important part of planning a trip.

Jono

Jono

Jonathan is originally from South Africa, but with a pilot for a father has lived and travelled all over the place. Jonathan’s main passion is white water kayaking and has spent many summers overseas chasing rivers. When he’s not in a kayak, Jonathan can be found mountain biking, climbing, hiking, skiing, alpine touring etc. His obsession with gear hoarding is bound to get him kicked out of home any day now. He’s up for any adventure in the outdoors and has most recently bush bashed his way into the Little River gorge (Victoria’s deepest), as a side trip, while kayaking the Snowy River.  Jonathan has just finished a Biomed Sci degree and is about to start studying Paramedicine, which hopefully will allow him to practice medicine from a helichopter one day!

Troy

Troy

Troy grew up in Adelaide, in a family that really knew the benefits of the outdoors. So much so, that his parents home-schooled him for a year of primary school, while they travelled as a family across Australia. Troy moved to Melbourne for study and quickly joined the outdoors club, taking advantage of their rockclimbing, paddling and outdoor gear. Last year Troy spent six weeks in Nepal and trekked to Everest Base Camp. Troy is currently planning a year long trip to the North American Rockies.

Ben

Ben grew up in Maffra, from where you can see the mountains of the the Great Dividing Range. From an early age school camps explored the mountains and beaches of East Gippsland. He must have learnt a bit in those formative years because, fresh out of school, Ben landed in Europe and undertook a 20 day hike along the Kungsleden which is a 430km  trail through the glaciated peaks and valleys of Sweden’s far north. We think Ben must have the travelling bug, because he has just been accepted into a study abroad program in South-East Asia. Lucky Ben, who is taking leave of absense for a few months ao adventuring!
