eVent®

Most common waterproof/breathable technologies do not literally breathe. Instead they move sweat in two slow steps by a process of diffusion through a Polyurethane (PU) layer. First sweat is condensed and absorbed into the PU layer on the inside of the fabric. Because PU absorbs and retains sweat, the inside of the fabric becomes wet. Then, body heat begins to push that dampness through to the outside of the fabric where it can finally evaporate - a very inefficient process.

We could mention the exceptionally low "Water Vapor Resistance" (RET) of eVent fabrics. Or we could talk about how much higher our "Moisture Vapor Transmission Rates" (MVTR) are in laboratory tests. The bottom line is decided in the field. Out there it's a black and white world: you're either wet or dry. You either soak in your own sweat, or not. It's that simple. eVent fabrics let the sweat out.™

All eVent fabrics protect you from the wind. All eVent fabrics provide you with sweat-free comfort through our unique Direct Venting™ Technology. Garments, gloves and footwear made with eVent Waterproof fabric add another level of protection. Patented surface treatments and fabrication methods keep out water - even hard-driving rains - without blocking those millions of tiny pores that let the sweat out.™.

Mont Austral Jacket, by Doug
 Mont AustralRainwear

Hi Glen,
Just got back from Tassie. Thanks for recommending the Mont jackets for Wendy and me. We used the jackets regularly over the 2 weeks in Tasmania, but the highlight was when my son and I (he borrowed Wendy’s jacket) did a 7hr day walk from Lake St Clair to the summit of Mt Rufus and back. We experienced rain, hail, snow and gale force winds during those 7hrs and remained warm and dry. Had we used the jackets that were recommended and sold to us by (name of retailer deleted) on our last visit to Tasmania, we would not have completed the walk, as those jackets soaked through after 10 minutes in moderate rain. They somewhat diminished the enjoyment of our last trip. We now use them for dry weather only.
We’re very happy with the service, the advice and the jackets. Best regards, Doug (Wilderness Shop customer)

Mont Lightspeed Jacket, by Kerry
Lightspeed in NZ

My Lightspeed jacket was lucky enough to see some wet weather action on its first trip out when I recently visited New Zealand’s Arthur’s Pass region. The stand out feature for me was the adjustability of the hood (with visor) around my face, head and helmet when the going got tough. It even tucks away neatly into the collar!
The jacket is constructed from durable three-layer Hydronaute PRO™ fabric, boasting a water resistant main zip with storm flap on the inside for a sleek look. It has two waterproof chest pockets for safe storage of your GPS and other valuables. Adding to the list of features, it has water repellent pit zips for extra ventilation when you’re working hard. A nice finishing touch is the fleece-lined collar and chin guard to avoid that scratchy feeling when you’re zipped up tight.
It’s the perfect all-weather companion for lightweight bushwalking or mountaineering; plenty of room for extra base layers in the snow without compromising its dynamic action cut.
